Pronouns: he/him

Hometown: León, Nicaragua

Year of Study: PhD, second year

Major(s): Spanish

Future Life Plans: I want to become a secondary language literacy specialist. I have the ambition of having (roughly) finished a book of short stories and a book of poetry before graduating. But how will I be able to do that while also writing a doctoral dissertation? That will be fun (and challenging) for sure.

Favorite Piece of Writing: I have enjoyed reading In search of lost time" by Marcel Proust. It has taken me a while to read it (I started since the pandemic) but I have never read anything like it before.

Why I love working at the Writing Center/Why I'm excited to work at the Writing Center: I love writing and hanging out with writers. That type of interaction brings a type of energy that I enjoy and that feeds my own writing. And all these conversations about writing and looking at the ways other writers figure out their process helps me learn and use new strategies for my own writing.

Part of speech you would be and why: I would be a semicolon. It is a fun punctuation mark because it kind of resists a definite definition. Is it a comma or a period? It is both and none of them. Is the pause you make as short as a comma or as long as a period? It's up to you, it seems. And yet, it does a lot of heavy lifting because once you see it you know two ideas are connected even if you don't see an explicit language marker telling you that. I love that kind of ambiguity; I think it is fun to be not just one thing but many things at the same time.

Hobbies: Reading, dancing, taking long walks.
